Comment on news story: Canadian opposition introduces bill that makes secession easier
The NDP proposal is a statist approach. A human rights approach says that at the moment of dissolution of the province of Quebec every resident has the right to choose where to take himself or herself and their equity in the former province. True human rights declare that every resident has an equal stake in the political jurisdiction. There would presumably be two choices: keep themselves and their equity in Canada or go with the new country. This implies that only part of the present territory of Quebec would secede.
Too bad the federal government cannot see beyond the statist approach.
